A beginners guide to Radio Production
The aim of this course is to get experience of producing and presenting content for radio. You will also gain an understanding of the jobs in a radio station and the best ways of furthering your career.
|
Day one Each student will learn simple digital editing using Adobe Audition and make a radio jingle. In the course of this we will listen to past students efforts in making Jingles, Station Promos, Commercials and Features and discuss the good and bad points of each. After lunch we discuss Station Imaging, learn about Adobe Effects and Multitrack session working, and then using all this new knowledge each student will make a short Stab or Sweeper for a station of their own imagination.
Day two Everyone learns to use the mixing desk and writes and records a short 'link'. Then we discuss interviewing techniques, learn how to use portable recording equipment and discuss the pitfalls of recording sound in various locations. After lunch students go out in 2 teams and record a series of vox-pop interviews in the locality before starting work on the main project, which will be a Station Promo, a Commercial or a Feature. |
|
Your Tutor, Tony Wilson has 25 years of experience as a producer of multiple award winning series on Radio 1 and as the mastermind of festival and live gig broadcasts over 2 decades including coverage of the 1994 Woodstock Festival 25th Anniversary in the USA for the BBC. |

Day three Completing the main project and preparing for the live phone-in shows. Each student will host their own show with 2 studio guest experts and callers on the phone. They will chose the topic for the phone-in, write their own script and prepare guidance on the points of view to be expressed by the studio 'guests'
Day four Recording day for the phone-in shows. The students take part as studio 'guests' for others when not hosting their own show. After this there is time to edit the phone-in and finish off any projects before burning a CD Showreel of the work and sit down for a final discussion of the jobs and roles and oportunities in radio
